I was given a bottle of Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation in the shade 3.5 Fair from a friend to review, so today I wanted to share my thoughts with you.
Firstly I love the packaging, I think it looks very classy and vintage, it wouldn't look out of place on Marilyn Monroe's dressing table. I also love the fact that this has a pump dispenser which makes it so much easier to use. The reason it is called Magic Foundation is because it contains what Charlotte describes as "magic ingredients" which work to create a flawless finish which lasts all day whilst minimising pores for any skin type. Charlotte's vision with this foundation (which has been five years in the making) was to create a hyper-intelligent, second skin, weightless foundation for all different skin tones and types, whether you have acne, dry skin, pale skin, oily skin etc. Her vision for this foundation is certainly something to be admired but how does it perform on me?
My all-time favourite foundation is the Estee Lauder Double Wear so I compare every foundation I use to that and unfortunately this simply doesn't compare to Double Wear for me. My friend gave me this to try as she didn't like it and felt that it wasn't right for her skin, despite Charlotte's claims that it is suitable for any skin. I have to say that I agree with my friend, I love the finish it gives but I find it very dry and slightly patchy in areas like my forehead. I also find that it gathers around my nose. It does feel weightless and I don't feel like I'm wearing foundation but if you like full coverage foundation then maybe skip this one because it offers only medium coverage whilst the product states that it gives full coverage. I find that this foundation makes a lot of bold claims but that it doesn't really live up to the name "magic". The shade range is very wide, but I find the pale shades to be extremely pale in this collection. Even if you have pale skin like me I would say to use one or even two shades darker. I have taken a photo of me below wearing just the foundation after it was freshly applied, this is before I set it with powder so you can see how it gathers around my nose.
Overall I like this foundation but I prefer my Estee Lauder Double Wear. I have people compliment me whenever I wear this because it leaves a flawless finish but it feels very dry on my skin and it gathers around my nose and goes patchy after a while. This is how it looked at the end of the day after around 8 hours wear, as you can see it is slightly oily and very patchy and this is with primer underneath and setting powder over it!
To get the coverage I want I have to put on three layers and set it with mattifying powder as I prefer full coverage, however it does give a nice finish but it doesn't last long enough for me as I usually wear my foundations for a long time and when it does come off it looks patchy and oily and moves around my face, therefore I wouldn't purchase this foundation or recommend it.
